John Goldsby proudly presents his latest project to Jazz Planet, Düren: The New York – Miami Connection. Goldsby brings together a band of like-minded jazz friends from three of the most vibrant music scenes in the world: New York, Miami, and Cologne. Goldsby, a world-renowned master bassist, is no stranger to the audience in Düren, having played with  the “Nachbar Trio,” in addition to his appearances as a sideman with groups led by Karolina Strassmayer, Ludwig Nuss, Paul Heller and many others.

Gary Campbell is a legend among saxophone players, having played with John Scofield, Jaco Pastorius, and John Abercrombie. Campbell is a fixture on the Miami jazz scene, and professor at Florida International University. He currently holds down the saxophone chair in the band of another master bassist: Miroslav Vitous. Rob Schneiderman plays piano with much respect for his traditional roots, but with an ear to the future. He cut his teeth on the New York jazz scene playing with legends like Rufus Reid and Charles McPherson, and he has made numerous records as a bandleader for Steeplechase Records and Reservoir Records. Hans Dekker always brings a smile to the faces of Düren audiences. He is best known as the drummer of the Grammy Award-winning WDR Big Band, Köln. As the rhythm section of the WDR Big Band, Goldsby and Dekker create the rhythmic and dynamic excitement for wide ranging projects—from Randy Brecker and Chris Potter to Abdullah Ibrahim and Joe Lovano. Goldsby has played with both Gary Campbell and Rob Schneiderman since the early ’80s, and this program captures these four master musicians in the middle of their 2013 European tour.

The New York – Miami Connection is dedicated to playing melodic, sophisticated, and rhythmically engaging modern jazz.
