Music was in the air in the Carrington house, and everywhere: her grandfather was a drummer for Fats Waller, and her father played saxophone in James Brown’s band. Terri Lyne Carrington began with the saxophone, but at the age of seven she grabbed her grandfather’s drums — the starting signal for a brilliantly successful career as a drummer, composer and producer. Carrington has worked with many prominent musicians over the past four decades, including Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock. Terri Lynn joins the WDR Big Band for the first time.
